Erdogan Says Humanity Bears the Cost of ‘Unlawful’ Middle East Conflict

(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday warned that the consequences of a “senseless, unlawful, and unnecessary war shaking our region” are being felt not only by the direct participants but by “all of humanity,” according to reports.

Speaking at a World Economic Forum (WEF) Türkiye Country Strategy Meeting in Istanbul, Erdogan highlighted the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in mitigating the ongoing Middle East conflict.

“When diplomacy and dialogue offer common ground, the burden of sabotaging these paths is borne by all of humanity,” he said, cautioning that the costs of prolonged conflicts will be severe and that geographic distance offers no protection.

He noted that the effects of war are reverberating globally, impacting energy markets, production, information technology, transportation, and trade networks.

Erdogan pointed out that recent years have seen the global economy shaped by post-pandemic recovery, green and digital transformations, rising trade tensions, and geopolitical developments.

"One thing is certain: if the conflicts do not end, the bill to be paid will also swell. In this process, geographical distance will not matter; in fact, countries located on different continents will be even more affected, especially in terms of energy, as far as it seems," he said.

The president emphasized that rising energy risks, fragile supply chains, and protectionist policies are increasing the global economy’s vulnerability, leaving fewer economies stable.

The meeting, themed *Growing at a Global Hub: Strengthening Competitiveness and Resilience*, also examined Türkiye’s position in the global economy and potential cooperation opportunities.

During a strategic dialogue session, 23 international investors from 16 countries, representing sectors valued at $1.2 trillion, assessed Türkiye’s investment potential, role in global markets, and long-term growth prospects.

The discussions included BlackRock CEO and WEF co-chair Laurence Fink, as well as World Economic Forum interim President and CEO Alois Zwinggi.
