Syrian army says YPG/SDF brings reinforcements from PKK terrorists

(MENAFN) Two women were reportedly targeted and attacked on Saturday during a demonstration in the heart of London by individuals backing the YPG/SDF, according to witness accounts.

The gathering began with a pro-YPG/SDF rally in Trafalgar Square, after which participants proceeded on foot toward Downing Street. As the demonstration reached the area outside the prime minister’s residence, several supporters of the SDF allegedly confronted two women who were simply moving through the vicinity.

The confrontation escalated into both verbal abuse and physical aggression, prompting police officers to step in and bring the situation under control.

The protest coincided with renewed military actions in northeastern Syria, where government forces initiated operations following the SDF’s failure to meet the terms outlined in a ceasefire arrangement.

Under that agreement, the SDF was obligated to pull its armed units to the eastern side of the Euphrates River and transfer both administrative authority and security responsibilities in the Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor regions back to the Syrian state.

The same arrangement also requires that border checkpoints and energy facilities come under the supervision of the central government. In addition, SDF members are expected to be absorbed individually into Syria’s defense and interior ministries after undergoing a formal screening process.

Earlier in the week, Syria’s Defense Ministry confirmed the implementation of a four-day ceasefire with the SDF, stating it was “in line with the understandings announced by the Syrian state” and undertaken “out of keenness to ensure the success of national efforts.”

The SDF is largely led by the YPG, which is recognized as the Syrian branch of the PKK. The PKK has been prohibited in the United Kingdom since March 2001 under the Terrorism Act 2000.
