Iran Urges IAEA to Address Allied Strikes

(MENAFN) Tehran is pressing the International Atomic Energy Agency to publicly address last year's coordinated military operations that destroyed three of its nuclear installations, according to state news service.

Mohammad Eslami, who heads the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, revealed Thursday that Iranian officials have formally contacted IAEA chief Rafael Grossi, demanding the agency "should determine its position on the aggression against Iran's nuclear facilities."

Eslami emphasized the need for the IAEA to develop inspection frameworks specifically for nuclear locations damaged during combat operations, cautioning that such military action creates potential environmental risks.

His statements came days after Grossi voiced frustration at the World Economic Forum on Tuesday regarding the impasse with Tehran over accountability for its enriched uranium reserves and examining bombed nuclear infrastructure, saying, "this cannot go on forever."

The IAEA director general revealed that while inspectors have examined all 13 official Iranian nuclear locations that remained untouched, the agency has been blocked from the three critical installations struck in June—Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan.

Following the attacks, Iranian authorities halted all IAEA collaboration, pointing to the organization's silence on the bombings and security concerns for facilities and staff. Eslami confirmed no IAEA personnel are presently operating inside Iran, with entry permitted solely to undamaged installations.

Israel launched unexpected aerial bombardments across multiple Iranian targets on June 13, 2025, hitting both nuclear and defense installations and resulting in casualties among senior military leadership, nuclear researchers, and non-combatants. The offensive escalated into a 12-day military engagement during which American forces struck the Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan nuclear complexes.
