Iran Refuses Any Agreement to Halt Uranium Enrichment Activities

(MENAFN) Iran will categorically refuse any accord mandating the complete cessation of uranium enrichment domestically, characterizing such terms as a "betrayal," Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has declared.

"We will in no way accept zero (uranium) enrichment as the issue has turned into (a matter of) national glory and pride," he said in an interview with Iran's Khabar Online news agency published on Wednesday, adding the country has paid numerous costs and made many sacrifices to retain its uranium enrichment.

Addressing Tehran's engagement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Araghchi stated the nation has limited cooperation exclusively to nuclear installations that escaped destruction during Israeli and U.S. strikes last June.

Throughout recent months, Washington, alongside several European nations, has pressured Iran to halt all uranium enrichment activities within its borders. Tehran has consistently rebuffed these demands, emphasizing its enrichment rights remain beyond negotiation and represent core national interests.

Iran suspended collaboration with the IAEA in June pursuant to parliamentary legislation, citing the agency's refusal to condemn Israeli and American attacks targeting its atomic facilities and expressing concerns regarding the security of its infrastructure and scientific personnel. The legislative measure followed what Iranian officials characterized as coordinated military aggression against sovereign nuclear sites.
